Jon Stubewitz is a 15 year old un-hip outcast, metal-head. He has one friend, Sam, who is a drummer. They have a common bond of music and a shared dream of starting their own rock band, but one problem... Jon can barely play a guitar chord. Motivated by Sam, he decides to take lessons. At the local music store, Jon meets the girl that will ultimately change his life. A gorgeous 22-year-old guitar teacher, Michelle. He has an instant crush and will now take guitar lessons forever.
While working on his music and getting serious about the band with Sam, Jon gets immersed in his lessons and soon sees his crush turn into obsession for his teacher. Their lessons focus on one song, “Feeding Frenzy” by the 80’s heavy metal icon Luke Wolf. It’s an incredibly difficult song for an amateur, but one that Jon is determined to learn.
As they spend more time together in the lesson room, a connection develops beyond teacher student and she soon realizes he is not an ordinary kid. Jon begins to believe Michelle and him have a special connection and may even be falling in love.
But, when he discovers she’s dating the singer of her band, things get more intense as he alienates his friends, family and life all in his pursuit to win her affection. A final bold move brings everything to a climax and in the end leaves Jon a little bruised, wiser and connected to the people around him.
